Koh Lanta is situated in the southern most district of Krabi Province, approximately 70 kilometers from Krabi province. It stretches for 27 kilometers in the north to south direction along the western coastline of Andaman Sea in southern Thailand.
Koh Lanta lies on the west coast of Andaman Sea in between Krabi and Phi Phi Island. Large Size Island with 6 km wide and over 30 kms long, 9 beaches lie from north to south along the sunset coast. Stunning scenery, fantastic white sandy beaches, coastlines have more than 70 small islands and plenty with forest, coral reefs and under water life. The geography of the island is typically mangroves; coral rimmed beaches; and rugged tree covered hills.
Pra Ae or Long Beach
The stunning crescent of pristine and white sands of some four kilometers long takes your breath away with its beauty.
Spectacular sunsets against a white sand landscape, excellent swimming conditions and a variety of entertainment facilities make this the most popular beach for couple and family on Ko Lanta. Despite this huge beach never becomes over-crowded, and even in peak season just a short walk will find you a spot with same privacy.

Ko Lanta is very diversity of nature. The archipelago comprised of over 70 small islands. Most of them are in the national park area which guarantee truly unspoiled. Many islands nearby are very rich of underwater life on a square mile of coral reef. Some have magnificent beaches which worthy to visit.
Many people come to Ko Lanta for some of the world's best scuba diving in the surrounding Andaman Sea . However, the island offers many other great activities and tours suitable for all members of the family including snorkeling, hiking and caving, boat tours, fishing, kayaking or rent a Jeep and sightseeing around this diversity island is worth.
Ko Lanta Leisure
Ko Lanta is the center island with plenty of accommodations. Travelers use Ko Lanta as the base to explore other small islands nearby, plenty with water activities as snorkeling and diving.
Ko Lanta itself has only the beaches, altogether nine from north to south along 30 kms of the west coast. At the middle is high mountain covered with dense rainforest. Spend one day free time sightseeing around Lanta Island is worth to visit.
The north tip of the island is Saladan Town (Pier located here), the vessel to supply everything for the island. There are plenty of food shops, souvenirs shops, tour agents, dive company and bank.
On the East Coast is the mangrove forest in-between Ko Lanta and Krabi's mainland. Lanta Old Town located on this side; the historic Chinese community lives on this island over a hundred year. Nearby is Sanga-U village ( Sea Gypsy Village ), Ko Lanta's first people. Or choose to spend the lazy day on the beach, visit many small beach bars with different style of decoration and music, or find some good massager for real Thai massage on the beach.
Getting to Ko Lanta
Flights from all over the world will bring you into Thailand usually landing at the Bangkok or Phuket International Airport. If you're flying into Bangkok try to get a connecting flight to Krabi, the closest airport to Ko Lanta. Second choice is Trang and third choice is Phuket.
The most inexpensive way between Ko Lanta, Krabi, Phi Phi Island and Phuket is the public passenger ferry that runs November to May. No ferry service is available from Trang but direct public minibuses leave daily from mid morning through mid afternoon. Public minibus service is also available between Krabi, Phuket and Ko Lanta if you miss the passenger ferry or its low season.
If you're arriving after noon at Krabi Airport you'll be unable to make the last public ferry to Ko Lanta. Your options are then, booking a private shuttle or staying overnight in Krabi town and catching the ferry the next morning.
